Discovering the Etruscan civilisation

We’ll depart from Le Macinaie Lodge towards Prato della Contessa and Quaranta. We’ll ride through the spectacular beech woods of Amiata. We’ll continue crossing the small town of Saragiolo and Pietralunga in the direction of Selvena. the road climbs for 600 meters and then goes fast downwards passing the old mines of Siele (now also called the nature park of Pigelleto). The road continues downwards to the small village of Selvena and we will pass the "Rocca Silvana", an ancient castle realized as an outpost for the Aldobrandeschi family of Santa Fiora. From the castle the road goes up and down till the participants meet Elmo localized in the Etruscan territory. Few kilometres of plain roads and we’ll reach the beautiful town of Sorano. After a visit of the Sorano’s Etruscan centre we’ll continue in direction Pitigliano. Pitigliano is not only known as one of the most characteristic Etruscan villages in south Tuscany but also for its fresh and excellent white wine. The road goes up and down again; crossing the Etruscan caves and admiring the sight after about 5 Kilometres we’ll reach Sovana. We’ll visit its old centre and its famous cathedral. From here we’ll continue to the park of the Etruscan tombs and graves to discover a little more about this ancient folk.
