Castello di Potentino (Seggiano)

(The Castle)

The PotentinoCastle is about a km from the town centre. It used to belong to the San Salvatore Abbey (the first news date back to 1042); then it fell under Siena rule and belonged to various families in that city (Bonsignori, Tolomei, Salimbeni, Bindi). Towards the end of the XV° century it was passed on to the Venturi noble family who left in to Spedale di Santa Maria della Scala. Currently it has been purchased by an English family and works of restoration have almost been completed. The castle can be accessed through a lower arch surmounted by three battlements.
